How To Tie A Bow Tie

Learning how to tie a bow tie can be challenging, but the charm and character of wearing a hand-tied bow tie can’t be duplicated. Besides, if you’re going to wear a bow tie, shouldn’t you know how to tie one? After a bit of practice, you’ll be an expert in no time.

Start by adjusting the length of the bow tie (if it’s an adjustable one, that is) to your neck size. There’s some trial and error involved, but once you set the length, you probably won’t need to change it again.
If your bow tie doesn’t have markings for the size on it, use this rule to get the right length: take your neck size and add 20 inches. This is how long the overall length of your necktie should be.
Drape the bow tie around your neck, with the end that’s on your right longer than the left.
